Crazy Stone

One day, a Zen master in order to inspire his disciples, to his disciples a stone, called him to the vegetable market, and try to sell it, this rock great, very beautiful. But the master said: "Do not sell it, just try to sell it. To observe the more, some people ask, and then told me that as long as it can sell in the market, the number of vegetables." This person went. In the vegetable market, many people want to watch a rock: it can be a very good small ornaments, our children can play, or we may take it as that used in dishes steelyard weight scales. So they were a price, but only a few small coins. That person back. He said: "It can only sell a few coins."

Master said: "Now you go to the gold market and ask people there. But do not sell it, light to ask the price." Returned from the gold market, the disciples very pleased, said: "These people are great. They are willing to work out to the 1000 money. "

Master said: "Now you go to jeweler there, but do not sell it." Where he went to the jeweler. He could not believe that they actually willing to 50,000 out of money, he did not want to sell, and they continue to raise prices - they are out to 100,000. However, this person said: "I do not intend to sell it." They said: "We are out of 200,000, 300,000, or the number of how many you want, as long as you sell!" This person said: "I can not sell, I just ask ask price. "He could not believe that:" These people are crazy! "He felt the market price of vegetables has been sufficient.

He returned back to the stone master said: "We do not intend to sell it, but now you understand, this depends on you, do you have a touchstone, understanding. If you are living in the vegetable market, then you have only that understanding the market, you will never understand the higher value. "

Five Things You Can Do Today to Increase Your Chances For Promotion

If you have any desire to be promoted in your current profession you must do things differently than your coworkers who will not get promoted. Here are five things you can do today to immediately start to improve your chances.

- Improve your attitude. Act more enthusiastically than others in your workplace. Stand taller, walk more quickly, move and speak more energetically, and smile more often. Look for the good in every problem and take advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

- Do more than you are expected to do in any activity you work on. Go the extra mile in all that you do. Try to genuinely help your customers or if you are a public servant those you serve. Don't just do things because that's the way its always been done. Make an exception if it's the right thing to do.

- Volunteer to participate on a work group, a task force or a project that no one else has offered to do. Look for high visibility projects and let your supervisor know you would be happy to add them to your existing workload and complete them efficiently, on time, and in an outstanding way.

- Initiate a solution to a problem your supervisor doesn't know he/she even has yet! Let them know in a non-boastful manner.

- Start being more productive and consistent in your work habits. Come to work earlier. take shorter lunches, and spend less time socializing. Identify and write down what you want to accomplish everyday and share news of your completed projects with your supervisor.

Promotions don't just happen overnight. People are "promoted" long before a higher level position ever becomes vacant. Start today to make sure that when that vacancy becomes available to be filled you're the one who fills it!

Hong Kong- Cultural Scenario and Work Ethics

Recently taken under the fold by the Chinese government, Hong Kong is a densely populated island, with a westernized outlook, Chinese roots and tradition. The charming amalgamation of Chinese traditions and British outlook has shaped a modern, westernized capital economy with a multi cultural ethos. Referring to its past glories and recent return to Chinese sovereignty, understanding the ethos and culture of Hong Kong becomes imperative when you plan to move to Hong Kong or are thinking about working there.

Cultural History of Hong Kong

After the defeat of China during the Opium War, Britain got Hong Kong as a colony to rule over for the next 99 years. It was in 1898 that the lease was signed and China got back the sovereignty over Hong Kong in 1997. However, it was put into the agreement that Hong Kong would be able to maintain a free economy for the next 50 years and so, Hong Kong gained the status of 'Special Administrative region'. The special status endowed by China has lead to a very open import and export policies with only 15% taxation limits. The perfect mix of ancient Chinese traditions and the overlay of western British influence of the last 99 years have given the people of Hong Kong, a different ethos and separate identity. The influx of people over the years has earned Hong Kong the tag of a global city.

Work and Emerging Changes

Most of the service industries deal in telecommunication, insurance, banking, real estate and tourism. Tourism in Hong Kong has gained a lot of world wide attention, especially since it is known as the 'Movie Capital of Asia'. Despite being under the British influence, Hong Kong has been able to carve a separate identity and the changeover with sovereignty to China has been smooth. The corporate culture is an amalgamation of people working from all over the world, and the mixing cultures have made the well educated working class with an international market savvy business culture in Hong Kong fast growing. However, with changing times, expatriates looking for work in China need to have language proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin with a high level of experience in their fields.

The constant migration of people has enabled to make Hong Kong to become cosmopolitan, well adapt to make expatriates feel at home. The unique cultural ethos at the workplace has brought about a multi ethnic society where people of different nationalities live and work together for a common goal. Though it has been subjected to intense political and economic changes, during the recent years, it has managed to remain a global city, with emerging markets--in real estate, tourism and a booming service industry. High end medical facilities have given rise to a new service industry of medical tourism.

Real Estate

As Hong Kong strengthens its economy, the demand for both residential and commercial spaces for buying and on rent, is on the rise. As it has become one of preferred base for multi national companies in Asia, the demand to house the growing expatriate employees is on the rise. Apart from that the local population and better per capita income has given rise for increased real estate investment. Even after the real estate recession ended in 2003, the prices are still undervalued making Hong Kong a sought after destination by overseas investors, with a bright future ahead. Rapid progress in the Tourism industry and projection of Hong Kong as an international travel destination has indirectly helped real estate development in the country.

Tourism

Whether one comes to Hong Kong for work or pleasure, the beautiful tropical weather and clean shoreline of this exotic island never fails to leave an impact. White sand beaches, modern amenities and plethora of entertainment pursuits have made it a popular destination during the summer months. With small cafes to five star hotels, Asia's only Disney World and a multitude of pursuits to keep the whole family happy. Hong Kong is still alluring to the expatriates from Asia and Europe as people prefer its vibrant culture, a chance to live in a safe, international lifestyle, enjoy pristine beauty with warm tropical weather.

With innumerable malls and international standard shopping festivals held by the government, the country has become synonymous for high quality shopping and visits to the flea markets, by both the tourists and the locals. Food expos, exhibitions, museums, aviaries, zoological parks are just a few mentions of what Hong Kong has to offer.

Working and living in Hong Kong is a novel experience with the future looking far brighter than the past, Hong Kong is becoming the major destination of expatriates from all over the world.

Four D's for Decision Making

Use the "Four D's for Decision Making" Model

The "Four D's for Decision Making" model (4 D's) is a valuable tool for processing e-mail, helping you to quickly decide what action to take with each item and how to remove it from the Inbox.

Decide what to do with each and every message

How many times have you opened, reviewed, and closed the same e-mail message over and over? Some of those messages are getting lots of attention but very little action. It is better to handle each e-mail message only once before taking action—which means you have to make a decision as to what to do with it and where to put it. Under the 4 D's model, you have four choices:

1.Delete it

2.Do it

3.Delegate it

4.Defer it

DELETE IT

Generally you can delete about half of all the e-mail you get. But some of you shudder when you hear "delete." You're hesitant to delete messages for fear you might need them at some point. That's understandable, but ask yourself honestly: What percentage of information that you keep do you actually use?

If you do use a large percentage of what you keep, then what you're doing is working. But many of you are keeping a lot more than you use. Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you decide what to delete:

1. Does the message relate to a meaningful objective you're currently working on? If not, you can probably delete it. Why hang on to information that doesn't relate to your main focus?

2.Does the message contain information you can find elsewhere? If so, delete it.

3.Does the message contain information that you will refer to within the next six months? If not, delete it.

4.Does the message contain information that you're required to keep? If not, delete it.

DO IT (in less than two minutes)

If you can't DELETE IT, then decide, "What specific action do I need to take?" and "Can I DO IT in less than two minutes?" If you can, just DO IT.

There is no point in filing an e-mail or closing an e-mail if you can complete it in less than 2 minutes. Try it out—see how much mail you can process in less than 2 minutes. I think you will be extremely surprised and happy with the results. You could file the message, you could respond to the message, or you could make a phone call. You can probably handle about one third of your e-mail messages in less than two minutes.

DELEGATE IT

If you can't DELETE IT or DO IT in two minutes or less, can you DELEGATE IT?

If you can delegate it, do it right away. You should be able to compose and send the delegating message in about two minutes. Once you delegate the action, delete the original message or move it into your e-mail reference system.

DEFER IT

If you cannot DELETE IT, DO IT in less than two minutes, or DELEGATE IT, then the action required is something that only you can accomplish and that will take more than two minutes. Because this is your dedicated e-mail processing time, you need to DEFER IT and deal with it after you are done processing your e-mail. You’ll probably find that about 10 percent of your e-mail messages have to be deferred.

There are two things you can do to defer a message: turn it into an actionable task or turn it into an appointment. When you're using Outlook 2003, you can DEFER e-mails with actions by turning the e-mail into a task on your Task List. Name the task to clearly state what action is required so that you don't have to reopen the e-mail message. The result is a clearly defined list of actions in your task list that you can prioritize and schedule to complete on your Calendar. Learn how to:

• Turn a message into a task

• Turn a message into a meeting request

Do it daily

Using the 4 D's model on a daily basis makes it easier to handle a large quantity of e-mail. Our experience shows that on average, people can process about 100 e-mail messages an hour. If you receive 40 to 100 messages per day, all you need is one hour of uninterrupted e-mail processing time to get through your Inbox. Our statistics show that of the e-mail you receive:

•50 percent can be deleted or filed

•30 percent can be delegated or completed in less than 2 minutes

•20 percent can be deferred to your Task List or Calendar to complete later

Of course, if you have a backlog of hundreds of messages, it will take time to get to the point where your daily routine keeps you up to date. It's important to get that backlog down, so I would suggest setting chunks of time aside to work through it. Then you can really enjoy processing your messages every day using the 4 D's.

HOW TO: Extend your cell phones signal?

1

A lot of technology goes into making your cell phone work. So you would think that we would be more understanding of dropped calls and garbled conversations. Nope. Nothing gets geeks into a seething tech frenzy like poor cell phone reception... and it doesn't help that we couldn't resist the glossy black smoothness of the i Phone and A T & T sucks for cell phone service. Sad.
Well quit staring at your one-bar-worth of signal strength and pick up this handy Cell phone Signal Extender for your home or office. Simply mount the included antenna near a window and run the coax cable to the base booster unit. You get 2500 square feet of prime signal area (enough to cover 2-3 rooms on two different floors). We went from 1 bar... to 5 at our headquarters and made our i Phones very happy in the process.
Important Note:
You will need to have some signal (at least one bar), for the Cell phone Signal Extender to work. You can't extend what's not there... right?

Keeping Vista Healthy

Vista has to be the most health conscious version of Windows to date and in amongst the many diagnostic tools there’s a very useful facility to generate a comprehensive Health Report.
To fire it up go to System and Maintenance in Control Panel then Performance and Information, click the Advanced Tools link then select Generate a System Health Report and the process begins.
After a minute or two it will create a list detailing the status of all of your PC’s critical components and if it detects a problem, it suggests some possible solutions.
It’s well worth seeing what it comes up with, even if your PC is currently behaving itself.

How To Auto-Logon To A User Account At Startup With Vista

How To Auto-Logon To A User Account At Startup With Vista

One of the annoying features of Vista is that because you have to create an account and a password for every other PC or device that you want to share files with. Because of this, every time Vista all of these accounts are displayed, even if you don’t actually use them on the PC, and you also have to login every time.

I spent sometime yesterday looking for a way to auto-logon to Vista, as having to login was really getting annoying on my Vista Media Center PC where I just wanted the PC to boot straight into MCE so that I could access my media. Having to login, meant I had to keep getting the keyboard out just to type in a password . I eventually found a way to setup Vista to automatically login to a selected account at startup.
1. Click on the Start button and type in ‘netplwiz‘. This will open the Advanced User Accounts menu
2. In the Users tab, highlight the account you want to login to Vista automatically with, and then ‘must enter a username and password to use this computer’
3. Click on ‘Apply’. A new window will now popup asking you to enter the password of the account you’ve just highlighted. Do this, and then click ‘Ok’
4. Click ‘Ok’ on the Advanced User Accounts menu to finish
Now, whenever you boot up, Vista will login automatically to your chosen account which is great if you are using a HTPC like me.
